Snowmobile Ordinance

All Village highways and sidewalks of the Village of Lake Placid and any portion thereof are closed to any and all snowmobile traffic except as provided by State Law, rules and regulations. It shall be unlawfull to operate a snowmobile on any village street, roadway, public or private land, play areas, sidewalks or school areas.

This ordinance was enacted pursuant to the provision of article 21 of the Parks and Recreation Law of the State of New York. 


Limited Operations

Snowmobiles are permitted on village streets and highways in case of snow emergency, when and as so declared by the Village Mayor as provided in Paragraph 2 Section 25.05 of the Parks and Recreation Law

"Operation as Emergency Vehicle." The operation or parking of an authorized ambulance, police or civil defense snowmobile, including attendant equipment, displaying one or more lighted, red or combination red or white lights which is revolving, rotating, flashing, oscillating or constantly moving light and which snowmobile is engaged in transporting a sick or injured person, pursuing an actual or suspected violation of the law or responding to, or working or assisting at the scene of an accident, disaster, police call, alarm or other emergency.
